Leadership Tip of the Month: Don't Just Instruct; Encourage
According to the Collins English Dictionary, to "encourage" someone means:
- to inspire (someone) with the courage or confidence (to do something)
- to stimulate (something or someone to do something) by approval or help; support
To be a better leader, do more than merely teach your employees how to do things well. Boost their confidence and perseverance by supplying healthy, regular doses of encouragement. The positive support you provide, however you choose to "inspire" or "stimulate" your employees, has just as much impact on their performance as the nuts-and-bolts instruction you give them. |
